It was nice to meet with some of you this week to discuss your child’s start in Grade 1. We look forward to meeting with the remaining families next week!
As for our classroom activities, we enjoyed gathering leaves which served as a springboard for our Canadian artwork project. This project served to consolidate our understanding of the Group of Seven and their contribution to Canada’s national identity.
In literacy, we read Canadian poetry and we will use their landscape artwork next week as inspiration for creating their own poetry. In math, we continued practising number consolidation.
In French, the students have been learning a song about Halloween called C’est l’Halloween!
This week in Art, the Grade 1s reviewed their knowledge of Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau. They also created a drawing using oil pastel inspired by his Woodlands style of art.
A big thank you to the JS community!
70 costumes collected
100 more kids helped
A total of 312 kids in Toronto received costumes from New Circles thanks to your support!
Please note that starting next week, students will be awarded points for logging into RAZ Kids at home and following these steps:
Reading the story
Listening to the story
Recording themselves reading the story
Please have students bring in their costumes in a bag next Tuesday for Halloween.
Every morning, the Junior School takes a mindful moment, led by Ms. Mary Moffat-Johansson at 8:25 a.m. In order to help our students and staff effectively practise, we require the hallways on the second and third floors to be silent. Students arriving during the mindful moment will be asked to wait on the first floor with Ms. Faba or another staff member until the mindful moment is over.
