What a short but fun week! Thank you to our parent volunteers for joining us on Tuesday and braving the weather! We enjoyed spending time at the various stops downtown. We then returned to school to learn about Metis culture from a wonderful Metis artist, Diane. Diane was willing to share her culture and artefacts with us.
We hope that you all enjoy a restful mid term break with your families.
In Math, we continued to compose and decompose numbers to help solidify our understanding of number concepts. As well, we continue to practise skip counting in preparation for addition and subtraction.
In Literacy, we’ve connected our Unit of Inquiry by writing about what being Canadian means to each of us. We also incorporated many First Nations and Metis stories into our lessons this week.
This week in Art, the Grade 1s began learning about Jean-Michel Basquiat. Students will be creating their own creature in Basquiat’s style next week.
In Music, the Grade 1s have started a song with verses including many celebrations occuring this time of year. They are using percussion instruments to explore sound, beat, and rhythm.
Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
