Grade 1 - December 21 /2017

As we wrap up the final week of term, we want to express what a pleasure it has been getting to know your families these past few months. We have greatly appreciated your support.

We wish all our Grade One families a very safe and restful break wherever that may be. Both of us will be spending lots of time in our PJ’s!

All students enjoyed a French meal including yummy crêpes at lunch on Tuesday thanks to members of the French Café and Chef Christian!

In French, this week the students started their last set of centres before the winter break. Among other things, the students have been practising their play along with their marionnettes with their group. In the New Year, the students will be filmed performing their play.

In PSE we have concluded our Relationships unit with a focus on “My Best Self”. The students made posters, which included a list of qualities that represents who they are when they are their best self. Qualities such as patience, honesty, generosity, tolerance, flexibility and kindness make it easier to make good choices for ourselves and our relationships at school and home. The students identified that when they are not feeling their best self, that is a good time to take a break and use the choice “wait and cool off” from our problem solving wheel. Asking, “Am I ready to be my best self?” is a reminder that we can be honest about how we are feeling in the moment and always have the power to make good choices.

Looking ahead

The York Shop next Customer Service date for uniform exchanges and or returns is Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Junior School just outside the Junior School Shop. If you have any questions please email

During the school day, students in Grades 1 - 5 are outside for recess three times a day and at the end of the day for pick up/aftercare. To fully enjoy the excitement that the winter season brings, appropriate winter clothing will enhance their outdoor experience. Grade 1, 2, and 3 students are expected to wear winter coats, snow pants, hat, waterproof mittens/gloves and waterproof winter boots at each recess. Even if it is dry and there is no snow, it is still cold. As it warms up, snow pants can be replaced by rain pants, rain boots and a lighter jacket. The clothing is standard for this age group.
