Parent Compass Points Feedback Meetings

Dear Parents,

Compass Points.PNG

Thank you for continuing the home-school partnership over the past week as part of the parent/teacher interviews and student-centred conferences. We received so much positive feedback about the process and about our amazing teachers. We also talked to students about their learning, their growth and how they took control of their learning. So cool!

In our January 26th FLASH, we shared the Compass Points feedback from our parent coffee meetings. Now that conferences are finished, we would like to invite parents to attend follow up coffee meetings on either: Monday, Feb. 26th or Tuesday, March 6th at 8:30am in the Junior School Cafeteria. Both meetings will cover the same content and are geared towards any interested Junior School parents. For parents who can't attend either coffee morning, we will include a FLASH summary article the week before the March Break.

We hope you are able to attend.

What a busy, but fun week in Grade 1! The students were excited to celebrate their inner athlete, their best self and our “better together” themes this week. Our lessons in class centred around these themes as well. We also looked at Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and celebrating our 100th day in Grade 1 this week!! We made an Olympic poster which involved getting our hands wet with paint (and a few shirts-sorry!), Chinese lanterns, Valentine bags, an Olympic torch and so much more! As you may have seen on Class Dojo, we celebrated our 100th day of school by playing a number recognition scavenger hunt, building structures with exactly 100 LEGO pieces and made a crown with precisely 100 “jewels”.

In Literacy this week, we departed from story writing in order to capitalize on the all the special events occurring. The written component, therefore, centred around writing reflections of our activities and journal and opinion pieces, such as “My heart is full when I…”, or “The Olympics are important because....”. Of course, we can’t forget about our skating adventure today! What a wonderful way to wrap our week of festivities by actively spending time with one another in the great outdoors! Thank you for supporting so many of our school spirit themes this week!

This week in Art, the Grade 1s added the finishing touches to their art history piece. The final art pieces are absolutely amazing and will be displayed in this year’s art show.

In French, the students started to practise answering questions relating to our play, les questions partielles. These are questions that hold part of the answer. Last week, the students practised les questions totales which are questions that hold the whole answer.  Les questions partielles are questions that hold the words who, what, where, when, how and so on. The point of practising these questions is to encourage the students to answer in full sentences and to increase the children’s fluency regarding the play. The students have learned a rap about these called, Les questions, by Sylvia Duckworth.
