Welcome back! We hope everyone had a restful break. On Monday we hit the ground running by introducing our new measurement unit. We spent the rest of the week investigating various non-standard units of measurement. In Literacy, we introduced new books to our groups and began working with new word patterns. For our Unit of Inquiry, we compared and contrasted aspects of pioneer life (e.g., transportation, clothing, etc.) with that of life today. It is our hope that this experience will deepen the children’s understanding when they visit Black Creek Pioneer Village next Thursday. Speaking of which, please send your child to school on Thursday, April 5th in their PE uniform and remember to pack a snack.

This week in Art, the Grade 1’s learned all about our artist of the month, Andy Warhol. They learned about pop art and printmaking. Students then used foam blocks to create their own prints.

In Music, the Grade 1’s reviewed rhythm patterns with flash cards.  We explored tempo by moving faster or slower to the song, “To the left, to the right..” We also reviewed our knowledge of Canadian coins in the song “Canada in my pocket”.

In French, the Grade 1s started a new play, Le petit chat cherche une famille. It is a play about a cat searching for a family and a home to live in.
