This week, ourselves and other Junior School teachers spent a day at a Reading Conference. We are eager to try out some of the great ideas and teaching strategies we learned. Meanwhile, students have been working on their Passion Projects at school. We spent time in the Library searching for books on our topics. If your child asks you about their topic at home, we would love to have more books or information. So please feel free to bring them to school! In Math this week, we have introduced the naming of two and three dimensional objects and started to investigate their properties. Our Literacy topic has moved on to persuasive writing, so be on the alert for your children persuading you on their points of view using three supporting pieces of evidence!

This week in Art, the Grade 1s began creating a community with clay. Each student picked an important building in their community and used clay to create the facade.

This week in Music, the Grade 1s used pitched and non-pitched instruments to add to our rain song. We also continued learning a beautiful song, The Sun is Mine.

In French, we have been finishing up our centres, one of which included the students practising to read the play along with the teacher. The students will be reading the play, Le petit chat cherche une famille, during Student-led Conferences next week.

Looking Ahead

On Wednesday, April 25th 2018, the Grade 1 students will be seeing Gregg LeRock perform at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. Gregg LeRock is a musician and educator who performs and writes catchy French songs that the students have been learning in class.
