Thank you for coming out to the Student-led Conferences! The kids were so proud to be able to share that special time with you! This week we have introduced symmetry into our geometry unit. We have looked at three types of symmetry: bilateral, rotational and slide. We’ve had fun making lines of symmetry on geoboards and with attribute blocks. We have continued to discuss the power of persuasion by writing about our personal opinions.

We also enjoyed having Ridley’s grandfather come in and speak to us about his involvement in the community and setting up a community centre. To extend our work with community helpers, students chose a new community helper to learn about (this time individually, as opposed to working with a partner like the last time) and spent the week persuading others about the perks of their community helper’s job!

In French, the students have started a new set of centres this week. Among other things, the students practised their play, Le petit chat cherche une famille, with their marionettes (puppets). In the next few weeks, the students will be filmed performing their play.

In Music, the Grade 1s started using hand drums learning different rhythmic patterns to items we eat for breakfast! The Grade 1s are also dancing and singing the folk song,  I’se the B’ye.

This week in Art, the Grade 1 students finished creating their clay communities and background. They also began creating a design for their next art piece, a stained glass window.

Closing Assembly
On Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10:45 a.m., the Junior School students and faculty will gather in the gym at the Junior School for our closing assembly. In the past, a closing ceremony was held at the Middle and Senior School on the last day of school; however, this year, to include our JK and SK students and to make the length of the assembly more reasonable for our young learners, the assembly is at the Junior School.

Parent will have an opportunity to view the assembly via a live stream and a video that will be shared after the assembly. Students look forward to welcoming parents to the class parties that will take place in the afternoon in each classroom. Thank you for your support!

Summer uniform officially began this week. Please note that summer uniform is optional. However, it is important that children are wearing the appropriate uniform. Please see the infographic below for assistance. Any colour running shoe may be worn, but it is recommended to have a pair for indoors and outdoors, especially on rainy days.

Important Dates

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
