Grade 1 - October 5 / 2017

HIGHLIGHTS

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We hope you enjoy your family time. We spent our week finishing up our unit by making community quilts. They are on display at school and look very beautiful. In math, we are investigating number sense and numeration and looking at ways to use numbers to communicate ideas and thoughts. We are welcoming a new student to our grade on Tuesday. Welcome Brooklyn to our class!

Art: The Grade 1s looked at the work of Pablo Picasso. They discussed his style and what makes his work different from other artists. Students then used recycled materials such as cardboard, styrofoam, and wood pieces to create a face inspired by Picasso. Students also painted their art piece and will add more detail next week.

French: We have still been getting familiar with our play, La petite poule rouge, and the vocabulary of the play.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Junior School will be collecting gently used costumes from Monday, October 2 to Friday, October 13th. Bins will be in the Gathering Place for items.

Michael Mitchell Canada is for Kids Performance - Friday, October, 13th
We have the privilege of welcoming Michael Mitchell to the Junior School next Friday, October 13th. Michael Mitchell is an award-winning singer, songwriter and storyteller. He is on a never-ending mission to stir up some patriotic spirit in the hearts and minds of all Canadians through lively songs and humorous stories of our history, geography and some of the wacky oddities that identify us as Canadians. He is also the former co-host of the CTV children’s program Story Time, and has also written and recorded songs for Sesame Street and PBS. In honor of this special guest and in celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary, students and staff will have a Red and White and/or Canadian apparel casual day on Friday, October 13th.
