Grade 2 - December 1 / 2017

Thank you to all parents who were able to attend our Simple Machine Extravaganza! The students were so excited to show you their knowledge and creativity in taking random materials to create a machines. Please see our Facebook page for more photos of the student projects!

We have launched our new math unit on time, temperature and money, using timers to record how long it takes to do various tasks. Next week we will explore units of time and begin looking at clocks and use common words for telling time such as half-past, quarter to etc.

The students continue to read fiction books in guided reading, with our current focus on making predictions based on what they have read. Soon, the students will be introduced to poetry and are practising using nouns, verbs and adjectives to help create visual images.

Next week, we will be introducing our new unit on celebrations and traditions. We will be looking for volunteers to discuss with the classes about the various holidays our families celebrate, as well as any family traditions you may have. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you are interested.

In French, the students have continued the centres that they started last week. Among other things, the students have been reading the play, Ou est mon chien?, with the teacher. The students were also working on les phrases folles (silly sentences), writing in their French journal and making paper puppets in order to practise the play.

Barbara Reid Visit

We were so excited to meet Barbara Reid! The author and illustrator explained her creative process and brought samples of her art to show. She loved our artwork and we enjoyed meeting her and hearing her speak. Please check our Facebook page (dated on November 28) for more videos and photos of this event!

Thank you to everyone who helped this wonderful day come together and to the Cloth Family for their generous support of this event.
