Students are learning all about celebrations around the world and the traditions that go along with them. They have been exploring the importance of light, music, food and clothing during a celebration. A big thank you to Deepa MacEachern for coming into the Grade 2 classrooms to talk about Diwali and how it it celebrated.
In Math, we are continuing to explore coins and their combinations. Students are practising making combinations using the least amount of coins and how to give and receive chance. This is may great opportunity for students to practise counting money when they are out shopping with you.
We are looking forward to the Junior School’s Harmony Concert next Friday. If you are taking your child directly from the upper school after the concert, please make sure to let your child’s homeroom teacher know.
In French, the students started a new language manipulation activity called Choisis le bon mot. In this activity, there are French sentences pertaining to our play, Ou est mon chien?, with a missing word. There are two words to pick from and the students need to circle the correct one and copy the missing word. This activity is a good way to verify the students’ comprehension of the play through their reading and writing skills.
This week in Art, the Grade 2s reflected on their trip to the Aga Khan Museum. They discussed the stories and traditions of other cultures. Students then identified their own family traditions and illustrated them. Inspired by the work of Barbara Reid, students used plasticine to create a picture that is the story of their family tradition.
In Music, the Grade 2s continue to listen to the different dances in The Nutcracker ballet and discuss how the music reflects the action or the plot of the story. They have memorized all of their songs and are ready for the Harmony Concert on December 21st!. We would like students to wear their long-sleeved green sweater with the white shirt for the concert. If you don’t have a sweater, the green cardigan or the long-sleeved green polo shirt will also work.
Are you ready for a week of Spirit?! For our last week of the term, we are going to show our house team spirit with some special fun spirit days. See the chart below for what each day will be representing!
