Grade 2 - December 21 /2017

Wow, the first term has just flown by! We would like to thank you for all your support and effort at home to make this first term a great one. We wish everyone a restful holiday season.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

This week we have been focussing on poetry. Students have explored various types of poems, and are trying their hand at this wonderful word play! We continue to look at why traditions are meaningful, the symbols of traditions, and the similarities and differences of traditions.

We are continuing to explore the concept of time through hands-on activities. We are looking at telling time using 15 minute increments. If you have analog clocks and watches at home, this is a good time to practising telling time. Terms used are quarter after or quarter-past, half-past or nine-thirty, quarter to or nine forty-five.

In French, this week the students started their last set of centres before the winter break. Among other things, the students have been practising their play along with their marionnettes with their group. In the New Year, the students will be filmed performing their play.

All students enjoyed a French meal including yummy crêpes at lunch on Tuesday thanks to members of the French Café and Chef Christian!

REMINDERS

The York Shop next Customer Service date for uniform exchanges and or returns is Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Junior School just outside the Junior School Shop. If you have any questions please email gbates@yorkschool.com.

During the school day, students in Grades 1 - 5 are outside for recess three times a day and at the end of the day for pick up/aftercare. To fully enjoy the excitement that the winter season brings, appropriate winter clothing will enhance their outdoor experience. Grade 1, 2, and 3 students are expected to wear winter coats, snow pants, hat, waterproof mittens/gloves and waterproof winter boots at each recess. Even if it is dry and there is no snow, it is still cold. As it warms up, snow pants can be replaced by rain pants, rain boots and a lighter jacket. The clothing is standard for this age group.
