Grade 2 - February 9, 2018

Highlights

Next week, the students will continue to explore addition and subtraction strategies. We will revisit and practice these strategies later in the year.

The students have been completing their presentations of holidays and traditions. They have been amazing! The students are now being introduced to their next unit on technology. The central idea is: As technology continues to evolve, it impacts our daily lives. The students have been exploring our book resources and next week they will be exploring “old” technology. For  example, can they figure out what an audiotape is?

In Literacy, the students are continuing to practice writing in paragraphs, as well as their regular word study and guided reading.

In French, all of the Grade 2 groups were filmed performing their play, Ou est mon chien?. Please follow the link below to view the students perform their play.

In Music, the Grade 2 classes have been learning about the 5 note pentatonic scale.  We have sung two songs in the pentatonic and now we are practising these on the xylophones. Eventually, we will have three songs and we will combine them together as a little mash up of pentatonic sound.

Looking Ahead

February 14th

On February 14th we will be celebrating our 100th day in Grade 2.  Your child is welcome to bring in Valentines day cards, however we ask that you bring one in for everyone in the entire class. We will use this day as an opportunity to celebrate kindness and friendship.

Wellness Week

Next week will be our first annual K-12 Wellness Week. At the Junior School we will be celebrating wellness with a different theme every day, from Monday - Thursday. Please take this time to reflect together on the ways that your family celebrates wellness.
