The York Shop
The York Shop is clearing out all of the new uniform (sample sizing) with the same pricing as Top Marks. We have one of most uniform items, with the exception of green golf shirts for summer uniform. Please email me your child’s name, grade, size and item of interest to inquire. Items will be delivered to either reception area for pick up. First come, first served. Contact: email@example.com
Students are exploring the various ways humans impact the environment. Students looked at ways in which they can help improve air quality through small daily changes, such as walking instead of driving.
Students are continuing to work on their chapter book study. They have worked diligently on creating summaries for each chapter. We hope to finish up this project next week.
We have officially wrapped our math unit on addition and subtraction using regrouping strategies.
In French, the students have started a new set of centres this week. Among other things, the students practised their play, Les trois petits cochons, with their marionettes (puppets). In the next few weeks, the students will be filmed performing their play.
In Music, we have been using rhythm sticks to practice rhythmic patterns to the Maori song E papa wairi. The Grade 2s are also learning the song and dance I’se the B’ye.
In Art, Grade 2 has finished creating their animal puppets and sets and most students have performed their “causation stories” (ex. How the Lion Got Its Mane). Segments of all completed performances have been posted on SeeSaw.
Next week in Math, we will began exploring linear measurement, perimeter and area. Students will estimate and measure lengths using a variety of nonstandard units and comparing results.
Students will be making observations on three different plants, which we are feeding different things (water, olive, nothing). Students have been learning the importance of a hypothesis and collecting data to prove their hypothesis!
In French, we are needing a few props for the filming the play, Les trois petits cochons. Among other things, we will be needing a wolf costume. If you have any wolf costume items, we would greatly appreciate borrowing them for the next few weeks.
On Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10:45 a.m., the Junior School students and faculty will gather in the gym at the Junior School for our closing assembly. In the past, a closing ceremony was held at the Middle and Senior School on the last day of school; however, this year, to include our JK and SK students and to make the length of the assembly more reasonable for our young learners, the assembly is at the Junior School.
Parent will have an opportunity to view the assembly via a live stream and a video that will be shared after the assembly. Students look forward to welcoming parents to the class parties that will take place in the afternoon in each classroom. Thank you for your support!
Summer uniform officially began this week. Please note that summer uniform is optional. However, it is important that children are wearing the appropriate uniform. Please see the infographic below for assistance. Any colour running shoe may be worn, but it is recommended to have a pair for indoors and outdoors, especially on rainy days.
Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
