Highlights

Thank you to all those who attended the Curriculum Evening. It was nice to get acquainted with everyone.

The students are really enjoying learning about their bodies and different ways that we can lead a healthy lifestyle. If you have any expertise in the area of healthy living, we would love to invite you to come into the class and do a small presentation/activity for the students. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.

This week in Art, the Grade 2s created self portrait prints. They used a sharp pencil to carve their drawing into a foam board. Then students used ink of all different colours to create multiple prints.

Looking Ahead

On Tuesday, September 25th the Grade 2 classes will be going on their first field trip to Ninjaz in Woodbridge as part of their first unit on keeping our bodies healthy. As we have been stressing the importance of exercise throughout this unit, the children will have the opportunity to challenge their bodies by completing an obstacle course. Please note that a signed waiver will be sent home with your child and must be sent back to school in order for them to attend the trip.

We will be requiring one parent volunteer from each class to accompany us on the trip. If you are interested in joining us, please contact your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible. We look forward to having a great time!

Next week for our Unit of Inquiry, we will be exploring the digestive system. Children will have an opportunity to participate in fun experiments that will help teach them the different parts of the digestive system and their functions.

In Math, we will move on to looking at number patterning and skip counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. In Language, we will be learning how to organize our writing for different purposes, beginning with writing lists.

In Music, we explored creativity, beat and rhythm in a movement song called, “Engine, Engine”. We also learned about mallets and had a chance to play the xylophones and glockenspiels in a piece called, “Go! Go! Go! “Just a reminder that Primary Choir will be on Thursdays during the day this year from 10 - 10:45. Choir practice will start the week of September 24th.

Reminders

If you have not already done so, please remember to send a pair of earphones to school with your child.  We will be using these from time to time when working on our class sets of iPads and Chromebooks.
