WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS:

Thank you again to parents who volunteered to come in to talk to the students about their work in the medical profession. We will be arranging a time for you to come in to talk to the classes.

A reminder to please have your child bring in their own headphones to use in class. Please send them in a labelled ziplock bag.

The Grade 2 classes are looking for some parent volunteers to help out with an in-school workshop for our new unit of inquiry on simple machines. The workshop will take place in Mr. Heyes class on October 16th, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. and in Ms. Kendra’s on October 16th, from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Please email your child’s teacher if you are interested in volunteering. Thanks in advance for your support.

We have been looking at our healthy bodies through our mind. Why is it important to have a healthy mind in order to have a healthy body? The students have been doing a variety of activities (yoga and intense exercise) where they have recorded in a journal, how they feel before and how they feel after these activities.

This week, we began our second unit, called Number Relations. We will be looking at number relations to 50, and later in the unit to 100. The students will be skip counting, locating numbers on a number line, adding a subtracting both mentally and using problem-solving strategies. We will be using a variety of manipulatives to enhance the learning as well as using problem-solving strategies to complete word problems.

In French, we continue to focus on the human body. We have been learning two French songs about body parts. Please follow the links below to see the songs. Au revoir!

Bonjour Monsieur!

In Visual Arts, the Grade 2s will be working on an inventive art piece that will require using recyclable materials as building blocks. I am now collecting a variety of recyclables such as toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, containers, small boxes (cracker boxes, etc) egg cartons, etc. If you are able to donate it would be very much appreciated!

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Junior School will be collecting gently used costumes from Monday, October 2 to Friday, October 13th. Bins will be in the Gathering Place for items.
