Grade 2 - March 8/ 2019

In our Unit of inquiry, the children have been researching the history of a particular type of transport, what it is used for and how it benefits society. They have created an information booklet about their chosen type of transport. This learning opportunity has helped the children to develop their research skills by formulating questions, collecting information and presenting their research findings.

In Math, we have been busy practicing how to collect data and how to use this information to graph it using bar graphs and pictographs. The children have also been practicing how to compare and contrast information on the graphs through questioning.

In Music, the Grade 2s are improvising in the pentatonic scale. The students learned the Rondo form, had the chance to play the song Bow, Wow, Wow and to improvise using just 5 notes. They did a really good job experimenting and improvising their own melodies.

This week in French, Grade 2 students were true risk-takers. The students wrote a story retell of of the play, Ou est mon chien?. The students practised paraphrasing and synthesizing the play in their own words after studying it since September. They did an amazing job in developing their writing skills. Bon travail les amis!

In PHE this week, the Grade 2 students played two introductory games; one bounce and wall ball as part of the net/wall unit.

After the March break, we will be finishing off our current unit of inquiry, Where we are in place and time. In Math, we will continue working on graphing and focusing on different types of scales that can be used when graphing. We are very excited to continue our coding lessons with Mr. Shaikh after the March Break.
