Grade 2 - May 24 / 2019

HIGHLIGHTS

Last week the children enjoyed learning about the interdependence  of living things by looking at the rainforest and the animals that live there. The children are now making brochures to inform people about how humans have impacted our world through deforestation, global warming and the consequences we are now facing.

In Math, we have begun introducing the concept of division as sharing objects in equal groups and will be applying it to problem solving.

Next week in our Unit of Inquiry, we will be looking at ways we can prevent global warming through our own actions. We will also be looking at threatened animals and the reasons for their endangerment.

This week in PHE, the grade 2’s worked on their running technique. They made sure to run on the balls of their feet, pumping their arms, high knees, looking directly ahead and running in a straight line. We finished off with some relays to practise their skills.

In French, the students have started a new language manipulation activity called les questions partielles. It is an activity where the students practise answering questions with the words such as qui, ou, quand, comment (who, where, how) and so on. The students have practised learning about these questions with a rap called, Les questions.

Les questions

In Music, the Grade 2s practiced all 4 rhythmic patterns in the Japanese hand game Omo Chio. The students also have done very well with a Maori rhythm stick game that involves beat, rhythm, working with a partner and working with the entire group.

A gentle reminder that Before Care does NOT start unilt 7:30 AM. There is no supervision before that time.
