Parent Compass Points Feedback Meetings

Dear Parents,

Compass Points.PNG

Thank you for continuing the home-school partnership over the past week as part of the parent/teacher interviews and student-centered conferences. We received so much positive feedback about the process and about our amazing teachers. We also talked to students about their learning, their growth and how they took control of their learning. So cool!

In our January 26th FLASH, we shared the Compass Points feedback from our parent coffee meetings. Now that conferences are finished, we would like to invite parents to attend follow up coffee meetings on either: Monday, Feb. 26th or Tuesday, March 6th at 8:30 a.m. in the Junior School Cafeteria. Both meetings will cover the same content and are geared towards any interested Junior School parents. For parents who can't attend either coffee morning, we will include a FLASH summary article the week before the March Break.

We hope you are able to attend.

Sincerely,
Val and Struan

Highlights

Thank you to all of you for coming to Student-centred conferences. We enjoyed sharing with you all of the wonderful qualities and abilities of your children. Our next set of interviews will be Student-led conferences, in which your children will lead you through their progress.

What a great day at Horseshoe Valley! We had such a fantastic time! The weather really cooperated and we enjoyed the peace and serenity of skiing through the woods in Oro-Medonte Township (Ms. Newell’s home turf!). Thank you to all of the parents who came to help us out. It was greatly appreciated!

In math, we have been learning about division. Specifically, we have been learning about the connection between multiplication and division. We have continued to use colour tiles and the multiplication/division chart to aid this understanding. We hope to move on to a measurement unit after the long weekend.

In Inquiry, we have been exploring different landforms around the world, and more specifically, in Ontario. The goal of this unit is to connect how our physical environment affects how we live, the jobs we acquire and the things that we do.

In Language, we have been investigating the features of descriptive writing. We have been learning that descriptive writing:

  • Evokes emotions
  • Uses specific and powerful words
  • Includes comparisons
  • Creates connections with the readers’ experiences

We will use this understanding to write descriptive paragraphs about a specific region in Ontario.

In French, we are continuing to learn more of Gregg LeRock’s songs in preparation for the concert in April. Please use the link here to have a listen at home!

In Music, we have been rehearsing our Chinese folk song Mo Li Hua, which we will perform at an assembly before March break. We have also been reviewing reading notation through a variety of activities in order to be prepared for beginning to play the recorder in the next couple of weeks.

We have kicked started our India donation drive (clothes and toys). Bins have been placed by fireplace in the Gathering Place for donation drop off. Please take a look at our "wish list" link below. This list will also be posted in each classroom and communicated in the FLASH for the next few weeks.
