In Math this week, we wrapped up our work with money and moved onto a related concept of measurement for capacity (litres and millilitres).  We measured the capacity of different containers using millilitres and litres. At home, you could help extend the learning by having your child help measure the ingredients during meal preparation.

During guided reading this week, we focused on the reading strategy of visualizing. Visualizing is when you make pictures in your mind. This helps us to better understand what you are reading. The writing focus was on procedural writing. First, the students planted a seed in a plastic cup and then wrote the steps to planting.

For our Unit of Inquiry, students explored the parts of a flower, their jobs and how to label a diagram.

In Art, the students are completing their nature art portraits, just in time for spring. These are black and white photographs of themselves that are embellished with items from nature.

Homework
For homework, the Grade 3s have been assigned IXL questions for measurement over the last 3 weeks. The expectation was to complete a minimum of 30 minutes per week on the assigned sections. Next week, we will return to the problem-based question for the POW, so it will go home on Tuesday (due to the field trip) and will be due the following Monday. We will also be sending home the final spelling sort for the Grade 3 year! Finally, if you are starting to think about your child’s summer reading list, we have two exciting opportunities: the Junior School Book Fair and the June Scholastic catalogue (they are due back next Friday, June 1st). We have been purchasing new books for the classroom library based on the “bonus bucks” earned from your purchases. Plus, the children have been making recommendations for our book picks and they’re loving reading each other’s book selections!

Please click HERE to complete electronic permission form for your child to purchase books and charge them to their York student account.

Friday, June 1, 2018 - York School Athletic Wear Casual Day
Next Friday, June 1 we will be tie-dying t-shirts in our House Meetings. Students are to come to school Friday, June 1st in their PE uniform

Students will be bringing their house coloured tie-dyed t-shirt home on Friday afternoon in a plastic bag. Please remind your child to take the bag out of their backpack when they get home as the the elastic bands will need to be removed and the t-shirt will need to be washed and dried. The t-shirts are for the students to wear for our Track & Field Day on Friday, June 8th to show house spirit.
