This week in Art, the Grade 3s learned how to draw a face using correct proportions. They also created a rough sketch of their self portrait which they will create on a wood panel next week.
In Inquiry, we have introduced our first Unit of Inquiry. This unit is under the theme of Where We Are In Place and Time. The central idea for this unit is: Communities change when they are faced with challenges.
We will be delving into the following lines of inquiry:
Characteristics of early Canadian communities (Form)
How early communities worked together to respond to challenges (Connection)
Different points of view of people in early communities (Perspective)
This week we have planned several activities from the youcubed website. We have engaged your children in a variety of different activities to inspire them to see the beauty and creativity in mathematics. We have also focussed on developing a growth mindset and the power of YET. The programme is called: The Week of Inspirational Math. We encourage to check out the website to see what we have been up to.
Your child’s homework will be contained in a yellow duotang called the Home Folder. Inside, there are 4 sections:
Agenda Notes - expectations and weekly reminders
Reading Log - minimum of 60 minutes to be recorded
Math Problem of the Week (POW)
Spelling (to be sent home at the end of September)
The Home Folder will be sent home on Monday afternoons for the whole week (no need to return early) and due the following Monday morning.
We will be reviewing homework expectations on Monday with the students. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak with your child’s homeroom teacher.
Please click here for Ms. Newell’s (3A) classroom schedule. Please click here for Ms. Cummings’ (3B) classroom schedule.
Please pack extra snacks for your child’s lunch whether they are on the meal plan or not. By the afternoon, many children have eaten through their lunches and meal plan snacks.
We have two field trips coming up very quickly. On Monday, September 17th, we will head to Black Creek Pioneer Village to spend the day as an early settler. On Wednesday, September 26th, we will head to Crawford Lake to visit an Iroquoian Village.
Junior Choir will commence on Thursdays (new day this year) from 10.00-10.45am. All students in grades three, four and five are welcome to attend. The first rehearsal will be on Thursday September 27th and will run for all three terms.
Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
