Grade 3 - September 21 / 2018

Highlights

The Grade 3s have had an exceptional week full of hands-on learning experiences!

On Monday, we went to Black Creek Pioneer Village where the Grade 3s spent the morning in the pioneer school house, taking on the perspective of a young child from pioneer times. In the afternoon, the children were put to task doing chores around the home which included woodworking, baking, cleaning, candle making and carding sheep’s wool. From these experiences, we’ve discussed some of the challenges that pioneers faced and how these challenges affected their lives. We took a number of pictures from our field trip we would be happy to share.

On Friday, the Grade 3s learned about the Canadian icon and inspirational role model, Terry Fox, and all that Terry did to raise awareness about cancer in Canada. Thank you to all the families that donated a toonie for Terry!

Please note that attendance (from Grades 1 to 5) is taken following the national anthem.

Math

We focused on place value and how to represent 2- and 3-digit numbers using Base Ten blocks, numbers and words.

Thank you, again, to all of the parents who joined us on Curriculum Night. We have had a number of requests for the slides from our presentation. Once we convert them for the web, we will share them right away. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Art

The Grade 3s added texture to their self portraits using Model Magic.

A note about homework

This week, your child was assigned:

Reading - at least 60 minutes throughout the week to be recorded in their Home Folder

Math - a parent-student questionnaire about a challenge that you’ve faced (does not have to be school-based)

**Please initial your child’s home folder on the agenda page and sign their weekly reading log. Next week, we will begin sending home a math problem of the week. Should your child have any questions or need support, please do not hesitate to contact their homeroom teacher.
