IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the provincial curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home!

IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password.

I hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL regularly. Here's to a year of working together to make learning fun for your child!

To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:

1. Go to

2. Enter your child's username →  first initial + last name + graduation year  i.e. jryan28

3.         Enter Password → 123456

Homeroom teachers may direct specific skills to focus for homework (for example, Grade 5 may be assigend A4-A8 to complete) or students are invited to explore the different skills for extra pratice and review of their choice.

We have been planning and writing journal entries this week. We have continued to talk about the features of a journal entry and why each feature is necessary.

We have moved on from number sense and are now beginning a unit on geometry.

In inquiry, we are looking at the daily lives of settlers in Queen’s Bush, Chateau Richer and Glengarry County.

The first Caribou Contest will take place on Wednesday, October 17 at 10:30 AM in the cafeteria.

At 10:30 AM, students who are taking part can proceed to the cafeteria with their Chromebooks. They will log in and complete the contest in 1 hour and then return to class. Caribou Contest has let us know that the first contest will feature the 'Lights' game (see 'Games/History'

page). There will be no history question, a questions from past contests, in the October contests.

Students may access practice tests and activities on the Caribou Contest site: To log in to their account, please enter the student’s first name and last name. Each student has an unique access code. Students were provided with a hard-copy of their access code this week.

This week in Art, the Grade 3s learned about Canadian Inuk artist, Annie Pootoogook. Students examined her pencil crayon drawings of everyday life and created a drawing in the same style of their everyday life.

All students received their recorders this week and learned their first note - B. Listening to your child practise is supposed to be pleasant, but if it isn’t they need to fix something. We learned how to blow softly and to completely cover both holes required to play B. They have a yellow recorder book which can stay at home which includes a CD with backing tracks. Each song has two tracks; one containing the recorder melody and one without, once students are playing the piece confidently. Using these tracks enhance the listening experience! The expectation is to practise frequently but for a short about of time, approximately ten minutes every other day.
