Grade 3 - September 15 / 2017

Highlights:
It was so nice to see all of the parents at Curriculum Night. Thank you for being such an attentive audience and asking great questions. If you have any other questions about the Grade 3 curriculum (or anything else), please do not hesitate to contact us.

Homework: Each Monday your child will be expected to bring back their Reading Log and their math “Problem of the Week.” They are both housed in a yellow duotang. We will give out a new math problem each week.

This week in Inquiry, our focus was learning about new settlers coming to Upper Canada. We investigated maps and journals of early settlers, as well as, some of the reasons why the settlers chose to come to Canada.

We will continue to inquiry into the following objective in mathematics:

  • investigate patterns on a hundred chart, and use these patterns to skip count
  • count on a number line, and use a number line to compare and round numbers
  • group by 10s to count
  • use Base Ten materials to model and record 2- and 3-digit numbers
  • explore different ways to represent numbers

The Grade 3 students are off to a great start working on portrait drawing and painting. I am collecting large size button up dress shirts to be used as painting smocks in our art studio. This is a great way to repurpose unwanted clothing. As always, thank you so much for your support.

The Grade 3s are enjoying their first weeks of French! We have been spending lots of time getting to know one another, establishing routines (ex. the sac à surprise) and reviewing basic vocabulary and actions. We will be starting our first play next week!
