Grade 3 Homeroom News

This week in Mathematics, we have been focussing on the concepts of perimeter and area. The students will apply this understanding by creating a Zoo in which they will have to measure the area and the perimeter of the different cages and buildings. The children have shown great enthusiasm for this task.

In Inquiry, we have been learning about what plants need, have and give. We have begun to delve into some of the adaptations that plants have in order to survive in different habitats. The final project for this unit is to create their own “super plant” that can survive in some type of harsh condition.

In PHE this week, the grade 3’s learned how to throw the javelin. 3A went outside to throw and 3B practised with the indoor javelins and will go outside next week weather permitting.

In Music, the Grade 3s continue to work on their composed accompaniment in Groovy Music for a new rap composition project. We are also layering our individual raps to create a class composition. On June 7th at 8:30 AM, G3 students will perform a piece from Mary Poppins to open our scheduled Junior School assembly.

In French, students have finished performing their plays “Comment y aller?.” Students had so much fun dressing up in costumes and performing their plays with props in front of their peers. This week we watched the videos of their performances and did some peer evaluation activities. At home you can discuss with your children how they feel they did in their performance in preparation for our self-evaluations next week. Videos will be send out soon on the FLASH or be posted to SeeSaw for you to watch at home.

Attendance Reminder

A gentle reminder that Before Care does NOT start until 7:30 AM.  There is no supervision before that time.

Track and Field

On Thursday, June 6th we have our Track and Field Day. The activities will be held at Oriole Park. JK-Grade 2 students will participate in the morning from 9:00-11:00 am and Grades 3-5 in the afternoon from 1:00-3:00. Students need to come to school in their PHE uniform, house shirt and black TYS shorts. They may accessorize with house colours. Students also need to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and hat.

Showcase auditions this week were a huge success. Please encourage your children to practise at home. Showcase will be taking place on June 11th at 10:45am. Parents are welcome. Please email Andrea Hughes at if you have any questions.
