Parent Compass Points Feedback Meetings

Dear Parents,

Compass Points.PNG

Thank you for continuing the home-school partnership over the past week as part of the parent/teacher interviews and student-centered conferences. We received so much positive feedback about the process and about our amazing teachers. We also talked to students about their learning, their growth and how they took control of their learning. So cool!

In our January 26th FLASH, we shared the Compass Points feedback from our parent coffee meetings. Now that conferences are finished, we would like to invite parents to attend follow up coffee meetings on either: Monday, Feb. 26th or Tuesday, March 6th at 8:30 a.m. in the Junior School Cafeteria. Both meetings will cover the same content and are geared towards any interested Junior School parents. For parents who can't attend either coffee morning, we will include a FLASH summary article the week before the March Break.

We hope you are able to attend.

Val and Struan

We had a busy yet short week in Grade 4! We continue to learn about geometry. We hope students are enjoying playing the Venn diagram sorting game at home. Students are learning all about narratives and writing our own, as well. We are solidifying our understanding of social and physical characteristics so that we can explore the Aztec civilization in detail next week.

Thank you for attending your child’s conference. We are so proud of our students and all their progress. We would also like to extend a thank you to the parents who volunteered during our Horseshoe Valley ski trip. Your help was most appreciated!

We wish you a wonderful long weekend. See you all on Tuesday!

Grade 4 has now completed their photography unit, which connected to their Unit of Inquiry that explored the concept of light. The students learned how varying exposures of light affect images in photography. They also learned to create a pinhole camera, develop photographic paper in a dark room and look at photography with a critical eye. They are onto a new art unit that will link the related concept of civilization from their current Unit of Inquiry to street art and graffiti.

This week in Grade 4, our students are putting their final touches on their Acro routines for their movement composition units. In these routines students linked together with a series of acro balances focused on balance, timing, form, and transitions. Next week the students will pair their routines with music and film their final performance.

Congrats to the Grade Five participants at the Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival rehearsal hosted by Havergal College last week. Many students were singing in this year’s Junior Choir for the first time and they all reported back to their peers that is was a very positive and enjoyable experience. They are working hard now to rehearse all four songs in order to be fully prepared for the performance at Roy Thomson Hall on April 8th. Tickets for the concert will be on sale at the Roy Thomson Hall Box Office from 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 15th.  Here is the link to the ticket information sent earlier this week in an email.
