International Day of Pink

The York School will recognize the International Day of Pink on Wednesday, April 11. Next Wednesday, students can wear pink clothing and accessories (pink t-shirt, socks, ribbons, etc.) in addition to their uniform. In their classrooms, students will engage in activities and discussions on themes of diversity, inclusion and bullying.

Students have been excitedly bringing in their artifacts to display and present to their peers. We are looking forward to seeing the remaining ones on Monday. Thank you to our parent community for supporting your children with this project. It sounds like everyone had a lot of fun!

We are transitioning to our new unit under the transdisciplinary theme 'How we organize ourselves'. Central Idea: Changes to habitats, whether caused by natural or human means, may affect plants and animals and the relationship between them. Students have begun practicing their persuasive writing skills and strategies. Soon, we’ll begin our third and final novel study. Students had an opportunity this week to learn about some books they could explore and indicate which choices interested them the most.

As well, we have also started our new Math unit on fractions and decimals. Just a reminder, that IXL skills assigned at the beginning of the week are usually new skills that are being taught that week. We use IXL as an opportunity for students to start exploring a skill. We encourage students to have paper close by as they are working through IXL so they can do work on the side instead of guessing. Please don’t worry about the ‘Smart Score’.
