MATH - Number Sense and Numeration week - We will practice adding and subtracting two digit numbers, using mental math, as well as adding and subtracting four digit numbers using standard algorithms and student generated algorithms. To support your children at home, help them to notice numbers in their everyday lives. Share times when you use mental math and estimating in your day.
LITERACY - We started our first spelling unit last week, and will continue with the same word lists next week. The focus is on developing an understanding our the spelling rule and learning to apply the rule to new situations. There will be a dictation at the end of next week, and the students will be asked to apply their knowledge and sort words following their spelling rule.
ART - This week in Art, students continued creating their Frida Kahlo inspired animal paintings. They also created landscapes using line, shape, and pattern.
Unit - Who We Are
Next week, we will continue to learn about how the natural environment impacts people and communities. We have started to look at Canada’s political and physical regions, and activities that take place on them. Although, we will use Canada as lense to focus our inquiry, the children are welcome to share their knowledge and experiences from other countries.
