LEARN WITH IXL
IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the provincial curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home!
IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password.
I hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL regularly. Here's to a year of working together to make learning fun for your child!
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:
2. Enter your child's username → first initial + last name + graduation year i.e. jryan28
3. Enter Password → 123456
4. Click "Sign in."
5. Start praticing!
Homeroom teachers may direct specific skills to focus for homework (for example, Grade 5 may be assigend A4-A8 to complete) or students are invited to explore the different skills for extra pratice and review of their choice.
Any questions, please email Mr. Shaikh firstname.lastname@example.org.
Attendance is taken after Oh Canada at 8:25am.
Full winter uniform is now expected (black shoes included!)
Fall weather - we encourage students to wear raincoats, and appropriate outdoor footwear for recess
Agendas - help your child to get in the habit of checking his/her Agenda and bringing it to school every day
Math - Number Sense and Numeration
We will practice addition of three and four digit numbers, using the standard algorithm as well as student generated strategies. Also, we will begin to look at measurement. Specifically, we will learn about lengths and units of measure.
Next week, we will take a quick break from our spelling units and focus on learning how to spell the provinces, capitals, and physical regions of Canada.
Please encourage your child to bring a book to read daily during DEAR.
The students have selected a date to share an area of interest with the class. They may choose to share a favourite book, a current event, a special memory or experience, artwork, stories they’ve written or even teach the class a skill! They should be prepared to explain their sharing (Why did they select this item/topic/memory? What would you like us to learn about it?) The students will use class time to prepare their work; however, they may also do some preparation outside of school.
Unit of Inquiry
We continue to explore Canada with a focus on the Provinces, Territories and physical regions. Students are also getting to know all about Canada and researching some “Fun Facts” which are due on Monday, October 15. There are lots of websites on the Junior School Resource page connected to this unit, they can be found under the Transdisciplinary Theme ‘Who We Are’.
This week in Art, the Grade 4s began their ‘Window to Canada’ art piece. Each student created a window using Model Magic and sketched a Canadian landscape outside. Next week, students will paint their boards.
In PHE, the Grade 4’s have been enjoying playing invasion games. They are enhancing their tactical skills which include maintaining possession, attacking and/or defending a goal, and sportsmanship.
