Grade 4 - November 8 / 2018

  • Rain gear - Students will go outside on rainy days and they need to be prepared by having wet weather clothes and boots at school

We will introduce multiplication next week. We will begin with single digit multiplication, using a variety of strategies. You can support your child by practicing the times tables (up to 9x9) with them at home.

We will take a break from Spelling next for the short week at school and begin again the following week. We will do a brief grammar unit to help students to continue to build their skills.

Please encourage your child to bring a book to read daily during DEAR

Unit of Inquiry

Next week, we will wrap up our Who We Are unit and work on our summative assessment. .

This week in Art, the Grade 4s finished their clay cameras. They glazed their pieces and added detail.

In Music, we are learning how to play Ode to Joy and Jingle Bells on recorder. Students were reminded in class about a practise routine, which will help them be more productive in a short amount of time. They need to sing the piece, by reading the note names, then sing a second time while fingering the notes and finally playing the recorder piece. If you can sing it, you can play it!  Any difficult segments need to be isolated and played repeatedly before attempting to play the whole song. The sheet music is available here. Grade 4 students will be singing at assembly on Friday Nov 16th at 8.30am. Parents are welcome to attend.

If you have registered your child for the Athlete Institute for the High Performance basketball led by led by NBA and International Shooting/Skills Development Coach, David Nurse please note there has been a change in dates due the gym being used for the Drama Production. Sessions originally scheduled for Friday, November 30th to Sunday December 2nd have been moved to Friday January 11th to Sunday January 13th. An email will be sent out as well for a friendly reminder but the session details will remain the same and will be changed on the google form that can access here.

Our next contest will be taking place Wednesday November 14th, 2018 at 8:30 AM in the cafeteria.

The next interactive question will be the DOTS game. This can be accessed on our Games/History page. It will not be accessible one day before the contest and not during the 2 contest days because the web site can be used to solve the contest question and because when some parts of the world still have Tuesday, other parts have already Wednesday, i.e. contest day.

Students are welcomed to practice at home! If you have any questions, please contact
