REMINDERS

  • Black dress shoes - with the Harmony concert soon upon us, now is a great time to make sure your child has black dress shoes for school.

HIGHLIGHTS

Math

We will continue to work on our multiplication skills and will be introducing division next week.

Literacy

Next week is the last week for our Literature Circles! Make sure to ask your child about his/her books and offer support as needed.

We will do one final spelling unit before the break. Next week, we will practice unit words and a selection of commonly used (or misspelled) words. The quiz will be Monday December 17th.

Unit of Inquiry

We have been exploring the scientific principles of light and will be looking into the scientific principles of sound in the new year.

PHE

In PHE, the Grade 4’s have moved onto exploring Net/Wall games. Examples of this category of games include tennis, squash, volleyball, and badminton. As a class, we discussed strategies to be successful which included communication, quick feet, hand-eye coordination, ready position, and cooperation. We will continue Net/Wall games until winter break.

Music

In Music, the rehearsal process continues in preparation for our Harmony Concert on December 21st. Here is the link once again to audio files and PDFs of pieces for practise at home. There is also a “how to play”  video linked in the concert document to further enhance practise at home for the piece Ode to Joy

Art

This week in Art, the Grade 4s were introduced to the process of self-assessment. From now on, students will be identifying if they feel they are a novice, apprentice, practitioner, or expert when working on their art pieces.

They will choose their category and stick a sticker with the identifying word on the back of their art piece. I will continue to use this vocabulary when assessing student artwork. You will start to see visual art rubrics coming home which look like this:
