Black dress shoes and green sweaters - with the Harmony concert upon us, now is a great time to make sure your child has black dress shoes for school.
Field Trip Tuesday - We are going to the Science Centre of Tuesday. The cafeteria will provide lunches for the students on the meal programme. Other students will need a packed lunch on Tuesday. All students need a water bottle and extra snacks. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers. We appreciate your help!
We have noticed an increased interest in playing cards recently. We recommend that students do not bring their card collections/valuable cards to school. If they do, lost cards are not our responsibility.
We are continuing with our multiplication and division unit. We encourage students to continue reviewing multiplication times tables which will help with the division strategies we are currently working on.
Unit and Literacy
To put our procedural writing into practice, the kids would like to have a “Maker Day” on Wednesday December 19th. The students will write a procedure at school, but they will need to bring in supplementary materials to school. Items from your recycle bins will work well!
This week in Art, the Grade 4s used their pinhole cameras to take and develop photographs. Students worked in pairs to investigate exposure times and lighting conditions. Students then took their photo paper into the darkroom to develop their photographs and adjust their exposure times according to the quality of their photograph.
Excitement is mounting for our our Harmony Concert on December 21st. We would like students to wear their long-sleeved green sweater with the white shirt for the concert. If you don’t have a sweater, the green cardigan or the long-sleeved green polo shirt will also work. Here is a link to audio files and PDFs of pieces for practise at home. Students will need to memorize their songs and pieces. Short frequent practise sessions at home work best.
Are you ready for a week of Spirit?! For our last week of the term, we are going to show our house team spirit with some special fun spirit days. See the chart below for what each day will be representing!
Grade 4 and 5 lunch time intramurals with Ms Birch will end this week.
After School Study Buddies with Ms Tarshis and Ms Sue in Learning Strategies on Tuesday, December 18 and Wednesday, December 19 will be cancelled. We wish you all a restful holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
WINTER DRESS REMINDER
Students in Grades 1 - 3 are expected to have and wear a coat, snow pants, hats, mittens and boots to keep them both warm and dry from the time of the first snowfall or as of December 1, whichever comes first, for all outdoor recess play times.
Students in Grades 4 and 5 are expected to have and wear the winter gear they feel they need to keep them both warm and dry during outdoor recess play times. Students in Grades 4 and 5 will not be permitted to stay inside for recess if they have forgotten or chosen not to bring their gear to school. They will also not be permitted to go back inside the school to get their gear if they have chosen to leave it inside their cubby.
