Grade 4 - March 1 / 2019

Next week, we will have a spelling quiz on Wednesday, March 6th. We will also wrap up our unit on time and money. In unit, we will explore many different ancient civilizations in order to launch our summative task. Students will select an ancient society to research, which they will do at school, after March break.

Looking ahead to after March break, each student will also select an artifact to construct at home. Students are not required to work on this over the break, but may begin to brainstorm ideas. We wanted to give you a heads-up, because the kids are very excited about this project. We will select a due date after the break.

Artifact Guidelines:

  • The artifact does not need to be life-sized. It can be a miniature replica.

  • You may use any material, tools, or objects (plasticine, LEGO, etc).

  • If you have any questions, please email your teacher and we would be happy to assist.

Ideas from the previous years include:

Egypt - Canopic Jar
China - Coins
Rome - Gladiator Shield
Greece - Clothing
Egypt - Mummies
Mayan - Calendar
China - Wall of China
Egypt - Jewellery, Head pieces

The options are endless!

Wednesday, March 6th will be Simcoe and McClung House Colour Accessory Day. This is a reward to Simcoe for bringing in the most donations for the New Circles Clothing Drive and to McClung for winning the 'Bring It' challenge. Students in those two houses can wear red and yellow accessories with their regular uniform.

The Art department is in need of some new collage materials. If you have any magazines or picture books you are looking to recycle, please send them to school with your child as an art room donation. Thank you in advance for your ongoing support!

This week in PHE, students explored the nutrients we find in our foods such as carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Next week we will be discussing how to make healthy food choices in different settings and what factors influence us to make these decisions.

Students are strongly encouraged to sign into the AIM Portal at home to practice their lines for the upcoming filming of our play “Louis la grenouille.”

Next week students are going to be filming their final performances for our play “Louis La Grenouille.” This is very exciting because the students have been working all year in preparation for this moment. The students have been putting together a list of things they need for their performance and are encouraged to bring everything to class Monday or the day of their performance. Performances will be filmed in class and sent to parents.

Here is the scheduled days of the performance so students are prepared.
