Welcome back! We are looking forward to an awesome term of more inquiry into the world around us. We are starting the unit, Share The Planet,  and this week, began exploring the different forms of energy that exist. We looked at the pros and cons of each source of energy and how we use them in our daily lives. Over the weekend, we challenge you to look at the newspaper and the world around you to find alternative forms of energy or discussion the future of our planet.

We investigated linear measurements and tried our hand at measuring perimeter. We made sure we were using the correct measurement (cm or mm) and were able to change our measurements from centimetres to millimetres. It is feeling like a promising unit as we grow into measuring capacity, volume and area.

Please use the link here to showcase the Reflection Video that was shown during Exhibition.

For the next few weeks in Art, we’re studying sculpture and, more specifically, the work of British artist, Henry Moore.  Students have created the structural base for their piece using wire and wood board. For next week, they’ll need to bring in nylon stockings to complete their work.  If you could donate any torn or old nylons that your child could use for this project, that would be great.

Spring Fulford Debate Tournament

On Saturday the 21st of April, the York School is hosting the Spring Fulford Debate Tournament and we need judges! Established in 1949, the Fulford League is the oldest student debate league in Ontario. There will be about 16 CIS schools (York is not participating, as we host) debating in three rounds. The first two rounds are prepared: "This House (as Canada) would rescind Aung Sang Suu Kyi's honorary citizenship". There will be a briefing which will teach you how to judge debate, but if you can fill out a rubric, you're good!

The day will run from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and coffee, tea, snacks and lunch will be provided.

It would be great if you can join us and see what student debate looks like (it's actually quite delightful, in our humble, objective opinion). If you're free, please fill out the form here and join us!
