Have your children been coming home letting you know tips and tricks to recycling properly? This week grade 5 has been learning some of the important details around recycling in Toronto. We have been looking at the Waste Management calendar and learning there is a wealth of information in there to help us deal with our waste efficiently.

In Math this week, the students have been investigating the area of rectangles as well as furthering their knowledge on area with irregular shapes.

We explored growth mindset this week. Taken from Jo Boaler’s book, Mathematical Mindsets, we learned the power of mistakes. Every time we are faced with a challenged synapsis and connections are made in our brain, growing our brains ability to solve problems.

Narrative story writing has been at the forefront of the past weeks literacy program. Students have created their own stories, making edits and changes as they learn to self edit and peer edit their stories.

In French, students are continuing to expand their reading comprehension skills with the independent novel study. To extend their learning, please consider asking your child what their book is about (in English OR French!).
