Grade 5 - April 27 / 2018

Save The Date!

The York School faculty is excited to host a special celebration for the Grade 5 students and their families. At the Grade 5 Family Celebration, each student will be spoken about by a faculty member, the Grade 5 teachers will have an opportunity to share their thoughts about the Grade 5 year, and all students will receive their PYP Certificates. Families are invited to stay and enjoy some refreshments and take photos.

Thank you for coming to the Student-led conferences. All the students were excited to show you all of the thinking and learning that takes place in Grade 5.

Literature Circles are coming to a close. This week we explored a few more literacy circle roles, which represent various different reading strategies. If you would like more information please don’t hesitate to ask. Next week, they will have their final book report due. In Library, we talked about all the possible choices. This is a fantastic opportunity to be creative and show off the book that they have read and to convince classmates to read the book!

In the final days of this week, we looked at volume and capacity in Math. Next week we will being our unit on fractions. Sections J and K of IXL will help at home.

The students have been asked to put their architect hat on to create a school that uses environmental practices, looking closely at clean energy sources and waste management. From there we will be auditors at our own school and see if we can make an suggestions or changes to help our school become an even greener school.

Closing Assembly

On Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., the Junior School students and faculty will gather in the gym at the Junior School for our closing assembly. In the past, a closing ceremony was held at the Middle and Senior School on the last day of school; however, this year, to include our JK and SK students and to make the length of the assembly more reasonable for our young learners, the assembly is at the Junior School.

Parents will have an opportunity to view the assembly via a live stream and a video that will be shared after the assembly. Students look forward to welcoming parents to the class parties that will take place in the afternoon in each classroom. Thank you for your support!

May 1st marks the first day of summer uniform. Should your child choose to wear summer uniform, please ensure their uniform meets the school's uniform policy. Should your child wish to continue wearing their winter uniform, they may do that too, but again, must meet the uniform policy.
