Grade 5 - October 26 / 2018

HIGHLIGHTS

Monday was election day. In grade 5, this day was a chance for the students to share with their peers why their group’s issue should be put at the top of the mayor’s agenda. It was amazing to see the speakers represent their groups beliefs and hard work.

Our final project for our unit government will look at an issue that would affect a city and see how all three levels of government can come together to help the city financially. After researching an issue, the students will create a newspaper article to report their information.

Math

We completed our unit on numeracy this week. Looking forward we will be checking out transformational geometry. Mapping coordinates, symmetry, congruent figures and transformations.

Music

In music, students discussed the rehearsal process of our instrumental and choral pieces using the Inquiry Cycle.  We will be performing Imagine in three part harmony at the Remembrance Assembly on Thursday November 8th. Parents are welcome to attend.

Art

This week in Art, the Grade 5’s began to create rough sketches for an animal totem. Each student chose three animals that represent their personality and drew a sketch of each one. Next week, they will transfer their designs to a large canvas.
