Grade 5 - November 23 / 2018

Morning practices - if your child plays on the basketball or volleyball team, they are expected to go outside immediately following practice. In some cases they may want to keep their gym clothes on because they have Phys. Ed first period. In this case, we ask that your child brings a pair of sweatpants with them so they are comfortable with outdoor temperatures. The students go outside after practice between 8:00am-8:15am

Uniform - please make sure your child has a pair of black dress shoes to wear indoors; they should also be wearing green or grey socks as per our uniform policy

In our Unit on Where We Are In Place And Time, we had the privilege of having MJ from the Canadian Geographic Society bring in a life size map on the Indigenous Peoples of Canada to teach the Grade 5’ about mapping skills, land acknowledgement, place names, the different language groups and lots more. A very exciting two days!

In Music, our rehearsal process for the upcoming Harmony concert is well underway. Grade 5 students will have the option of playing either the soprano or alto recorders as part of this performance in addition to our songs and pieces. If you have a recorder at home, please send it with your child on Mondays and Wednesdays. I have alto recorders available.

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.

SAVE THE DATE - December 14

*New* Junior School Celebration Assembly

On Friday, December 14th at 8:40 AM, students in Grades 1-5 will join together in the Junior School gym for our first Celebration Assembly.

The assembly is a time for the community to celebrate the many achievements this term - from math to music to sports - of students. The event will include recognizing student athletes from our fall teams:  the U11 Girls’ basketball team, U9-U11 Cross country team, and the U-9 to U11 Soccer. There will be a choir performance celebrating our ‘vocal chops’ and the Junior School students who are participating in the Caribou Math Contest will be recognized as well.

Families are welcome to attend!

Instead of having one Junior School Athletic Assembly in June, this new Celebration Assembly format recognizes all student achievements including our student athletes each term.

As you can see by the fun tweet below, this event is always a huge hit at the Middle and Senior School!
