Thank you all for coming to the Student Led Conferences. Our grade 5’s were so proud to show you their hard work and enthusiastic to share their learning with you.
We have reivewed the differences between volume, mass and capacity and have been working hard at figuring out elapsed time. At home, you can bring elapsed time into everyday life by asking your child how much time has passed between events!
The group is working hard at completing their “So What” essays for their exhibition. Interviews are wrapping up and ideas are flowing in terms of what types of action will be taken to share and communicate their learning.
In PHE, the Grade 5’s prepped for Student-led conferences. As the weather begins to warm up, we will be moving some PHE outdoors where students can practice their track and field skills and work on their fitness levels.
In French, we have read the second chapter of our novel study, “Brandon Brown veut un chien” by Carol Gaab. Students have chosen their first independent activity for chapter 2 and have started working during class time. Students have had class time to complete their activity but they also have the option to bring their novel and activities home to work on. This independent chapter activity is due this Friday. At home, you can discuss what activity your child has chosen for their independent chapter activity and the events in the book. Please note: Each student received a novel with the expectation that it will be brought to each French class and returned at the end of the school year.
This week in Art, we prepared for the Junior School Art Show. We hope that you enjoyed viewing and learning all about our creative masterpieces!
In Music, students continue to rehearse and compose in connection with the exhibition process. You might have been given a sneak peek by your son or daughter during student-led conferences.

Challenge by Choice: Spelling Bee
The York School has been invited to participate in a Spelling Bee with two other PYP schools on Monday, May 27, 2019. The York School may send two students per grade from the Junior School to compete at the Spelling Bee. Students representatives will walk to The Sunnybrook School to participate and compete in age/grade categories.
This is a Challenge by Choice activity. Students may choose to participate or may choose to not participate. There will be five grade-level Spelling Bees held for each grade with students from both classes participating. The top speller from each grade will be invited to complete at the Spelling Bee at The Sunnybrook School.
Grade-level spelling bee dates are:
Friday, May 10, 2019 - Grade 5
Monday, May 13, 2019 - Grade 4
Tuesday, May 14, 2019 - Grade 3
Wednesday, May 15, 2019 - Grade 2
Thursday, May 16, 2019 - Grade 1
Each grade Spelling Bee will begin at 1:00 PM on the designated day. The location of the bee will be determined by the number of participants.
If you are interested in having your child participate in the spelling bee, please complete the registration here. More information will be provided, including the Spelling Bee rules, practice word lists, and days and times that students may practice during lunch.
