Grade 5 - June 7 / 2019

As the year comes to an end we are still working hard! These grade 5s are keen to keep learning! From persuasive writing to probability games, the grade 5s are committed to finishing this year with a bang.

Next week we will be building probability games (think carnival games or an age appropriate casino!) brainstorming over the weekend is encouraged :)

Lit circles

One of our favorite activities this year, will help to close down our language program as well as our final unit, How We Express Ourselves. After a wickedly fun adventure, learning how to express ourselves through hip hop and hip hop culture, we will explore how we expressed our knowledge throughout the year and some of our favourite books (Great ideas for summer reading!)

PHE

Thank you all for a terrific Track and Field Day! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves participating in the activities. The House spirit was fantastic! Go York!

Music

Students have been busy rehearsing a special performance for their celebration assembly on Monday. They are very excited to share it with you.

French

In French, we continued to read our novel “Brandon brown veut un chien.” We did a retell of the events in the previous chapters and we read Chapter 9 as a class and students read the chapter in their reading groups. Next week, we will finish off our novel study with a prediction activity. Students will have to come up with three alternative ending to the novel in their reading groups. Before the last day of school, all novels must be returned. Any unreturned or damaged novels will have to be paid for. To end off the week we will be playing some games and doing activities to review and consolidate concepts learned this year.

Art

The Grade 5 students will be bringing home any remaining work from this term. It has been a pleasure working with the students and I wish them all the best of luck as they move on to Middle School in September!
