JK - November 24 / 2017

Weekly Highlights

We have begun our new unit How The World Works. The Central Idea is Animals adapt to their environment throughout the seasons. The lines of inquiry which will guide our unit are:

  • Different habitats

  • The effect of seasonal changes on animals

  • Ways animals adapt to seasonal changes

As we investigate these lines of inquiry, we will be encouraging and supporting the students to create and ask questions. Please let us know if your child comes home with a question, or if you do any research after school. We would be thrilled to have children share their independent learning with the class (examples of independent learning, books, videos, pictures).

This week the focus has been on the ways that animals adapt. We will continue this investigation next week, as well as look at how animals adapt to the cold weather and will introduce the concept of hibernation and migration.

At the beginning of the week, students used clay to create winter/holiday decorations in Art class. Also this week, the JKs used colour diffusing paper and markers to create coloured paper that will be used for our next project.

In French, we have been practising our play, Le lievre et la tortue. In the next few weeks, the students will be filmed performing their play, therefore they will be practising the play quite a bit. Also, the students have been practising to sing the alphabet in French. L'alphabet
