Parent Compass Points Feedback Meetings

Dear Parents,

Thank you for continuing the home-school partnership over the past week as part of the parent/teacher interviews and student-centered conferences. We received so much positive feedback about the process and about our amazing teachers. We also talked to students about their learning, their growth and how they took control of their learning. So cool!

In our January 26th FLASH, we shared the Compass Points feedback from our parent coffee meetings. Now that conferences are finished, we would like to invite parents to attend follow up coffee meetings on either: Monday, Feb. 26th or Tuesday, March 6th at 8:30 a.m. in the Junior School Cafeteria. Both meetings will cover the same content and are geared towards any interested Junior School parents. For parents who can't attend either coffee morning, we will include a FLASH summary article the week before the March Break.

We hope you are able to attend.

Sincerely,
Val and Struan

Highlights

It has been such a fun and busy week in JK. From our Valentine’s Day celebrations as well as Skating Day, what a great time we have had! It was nice to get outside and enjoy the winter weather. Thank you to those of you who came out to participate and help.

It was so nice chatting with parents during out second and last round of parent-teacher interviews. Please do not hesitate to message Ms. Maria or Ms. Meg if you have forgotten to mention anything to us about your child.

This week, we continued learning about shapes, counted sides and corners, used new vocabularies such as sides and vertices. Ms. Ho, our JK A teacher candidate, presented a lesson plan on symmetry. The children practiced symmetry by using hands-on exercises in the class and created art pieces that they will take home on Thursday.

We continue our focus on our unique imaginations. This week the children listened to a variety of stories and then had to decide what the purpose of the story was. Was it for entertainment or information or both? It was interesting listening to their reasoning behind their answer.

This week in Art, the JK’s learned about our artist of the month, Georges Seurat. Students watched a short video about his life and artistic style. They learned all about pointillism. Students then used tempera paint and corks to practice pointillism and create their own art piece.

In French, this week, we have continued to practice our play, Petit Poussin. We have also learned a new song about farm animals called, Sur la ferme du pere Anselme.

Looking Ahead

Have a wonderful and happy Family Day weekend. We look forward to seeing the children back on Tuesday, February 20th.
