The York Shop
The York Shop is clearing out all of the new uniform (sample sizing) with the same pricing as Top Marks. We have one of most uniform items, with the exception of green golf shirts for summer uniform. Please email me your child’s name, grade, size and item of interest to inquire. Items will be delivered to either reception area for pick up. First come, first served.
We had a wonderful excursion to the Toronto Botanical Gardens! The weather was perfect. Thank you for your help on our trip!
Our classroom grass grew so tall that the children enjoyed trimming it with scissors down to 2 cm, checking for height with a ruler. We also have been checking our science experiments on a daily basis; the bean experiment and our newest experiment which is celery in coloured water. Don’t forget to ask your children about the details of their observations.
This week, we introduced capacity. We watched a YouTube video, Will an Elephant Fit in a Bathtub? The children enjoyed measuring water and transferring water from small jugs to big jugs and learning about capacity and how its form can change so easily.
To date, we have discussed and explored various parts of a plant such as seeds, roots and stems. Next week we will look at leaves. It’s so wonderful to have our plants for hands-on learning and discussions.
In French, we are continuing to practise the play, Petit poussin, in order to ready for the filming of our play, which will happen in the next few weeks.
In Music, we are singing about plants and how they grow. The JKs also learned LInary Lanary Lock, a poem that explores creativity through emotions.
This week in Art, the JKs began creating a textured garden. Each student painted their background on canvas and then used fabric scraps and buttons to create plants and flowers.
JK Learning Celebrations
Both JK classes will be showing off what they have learned during this last Unit of Inquiry to their parents on Thursday, May 31st at 9:15 a.m. The Learning Celebration will take place in the cafeteria so please be sure to save the date and time! You will not want to miss this!
May 31st - JK Learning Celebration - 9:15 - 10:00 am in the cafeteria
June 14th - Junior School Fun Day at Oriole Park in the am, followed by pizza and ice cream lunch, small group activities in the pm.
June 15th - Junior School Closing Assembly in the morning, followed by class parties in the afternoon.
Summer uniform officially began this week. Please note that summer uniform is optional. However, it is important that children are wearing the appropriate uniform. Please see the infographic below for assistance. Any colour running shoe may be worn, but it is recommended to have a pair for indoors and outdoors, especially on rainy days.
On Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10:45 a.m., the Junior School students and faculty will gather in the gym at the Junior School for our closing assembly. In the past, a closing ceremony was held at the Middle and Senior School on the last day of school; however, this year, to include our JK and SK students and to make the length of the assembly more reasonable for our young learners, the assembly is at the Junior School.
Parent will have an opportunity to view the assembly via a live stream and a video that will be shared after the assembly. Students look forward to welcoming parents to the class parties that will take place in the afternoon in each classroom. Thank you for your support!
Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
