JK - September 28 / 2018


Another fantastic week in JK! The children are becoming more comfortable at school and friendships continue to develop.

Many of the language activities that the children work on in class involve sound/symbol association, listening to and identifying the first sound of a word and/or other sounds within a word. They continue to practice fine motor skills through our practical life activities and working with Handwriting Without Tears. We are encourage children to use the proper pencil grip. Please see below.

In PHE we finished our team building challenge unit. We learned to encourage others, be good listeners, collaborate, problem solve and have fun.


We have been collecting various items from around the classroom, and, as a class, we sort them according to the various attributes that the children identify. Thank you to all the families that have discussed patterns at home; we can really see how the children are excited about patterns and are quickly noticing them in their environment.

We are still continuing this investigation so please send in any objects with patterns that your children may have at home! In addition, encourage your children to sort objects at home. Have them sort toys, clothing and groceries. Have them use the word attributes to describe what they’re feeling/seeing.


Please remember to send your child in rain boots, raincoat, and splash pants on rainy days. Although we do not go out in heavy rain, we will go out in drizzle.


ART - In Art class, the students in Junior Kindergarten are working on an integrated project that incorporates both a growing identify of self (self-portrait) and a developing understanding of patterning skills. Stay tuned on Seesaw as this project develops throughout our Art classes this week.

In addition to our self-portrait and patterning work, we will be starting The Beautiful Stuff Project in Junior Kindergarten. Please read the letter below from Ms. Melissa and return the bags before Thanksgiving:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION - In PHE, we have started to work on our locomotor skills such as hopping, galloping, leaping and skipping. These skills are the basic ways to move which are the foundation to any sport or activity. We are learning these skills by playing a variety of  games and through different activities.

FRENCH - In French, the students have continued to practise and learn the play, Le lievre et la tortue. They have also been practising the basic words and gestures that they need to build up their basic fluency such as marche, cours, regarde and so on.

MUSIC - In Music, we are reciting poems using beat, rhythm, movement and high and low pitches. We also starting looking at instruments and wondering how they make their different sounds.
