IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the provincial curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home!

IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password.

The children continued to practice forming numbers this week with lots of loose materials. They have become more confident in their patterning and sorting skills and we are seeing these skills being applied when we are outside of the classroom. Encourage your children to find and point out patterns when you are out and about this weekend!

We also are continuing to reinforce all the sounds of the alphabet and for some, we are working on sounding out words phonetically. The children have enjoyed working in their Handwriting Without Tears books and are learning to colour inside the lines – a great way to hone their fine motor skills.

ART: We are beginning The Beautiful Stuff Project. Each day, a few students will open their bag for the class, showcasing the “beautiful” items inside. From there, we will work as a group to sort, classify, and utilize the materials. Stay-tuned for this interactive project!

FRENCH: The students have been reviewing our numbers from one to twenty. The students have been singing a song to review those numbers. Listen along to the song here: Les chiffres 1 a 20

MUSIC: We reviewed beat and rhythm through our Criss Cross poem. We also looked at heavy/light and slow/fast while moving to the music of The Carnival of the Animals.

A reminder to please send in 8 - 10 pictures of your children at play for their collage.

Kindly send in a Pumpkin Pie pumpkin for your child to decorate. After they decorate their scary pumpkin, they will bring it home for you to enjoy just in time for Halloween.

JK Action!

We have some student initiated action in JK. After inquiring about how other students play and realizing that not all students have the same amount of toys as they do, one student has brought in a toy to donate. We are encouraging all students to bring in a toy they no longer use to donate to kids in need. We will research where to donate these toys, write a letter and hopefully even deliver the toys!

Thank you to everyone that placed Scholastic Orders, we will put your child’s books in their bag, as soon as they arrive.
