JK - October 20 / 2017

This week, the JKs continued to look at pictures of how children play in different parts of the world, often with very limited resources. We discussed how our imagination allow us to play in many different ways. We also looked at children with special needs and how everyone is able to play! We are talking about being caring and respectful towards one’s self and others, taking turns and listening to each others' ideas. We encourage the children to “cooperate” with their classmates and play together peacefully.

Flip Flop Over the Top

Teaching your child how to put their coat on independently. This simple coat trick is very well known and the one we use frequently. It’s a coat trick that has been used for decades, being passed down from one generation of teachers to the next. Have your child put the coat down on the floor (or a table). They need to stand near the tag/hood, put their arms through the arm holes, and flip the coat over their head. If you have used this flip method before, you know exactly what we mean. However, if you are not familiar with this, you can see a great tutorial, with step by step photos over at Teach Preschool. Once a child is used to looking at their coat upside down, this will be a breeze.

The Winter Athletic season is almost upon us!  Please click here to sign up for Winter teams and GADPs!

Using their knowledge of line, the JKs used construction paper to create a colourful line sculpture. They also examined rug designs from around the world and began creating their own design using as many types of line as possible.

The students have been learning a song about the colours and as well as song about the Fall in French.

Les couleurs

L'automne est arrive

The JKs are all singing! Although exact pitch match is a long journey, all students are distinguishing between high and low sounds. Highlights of the week include students playing games on their own, without teacher assistance.

Please send in a small pumpkin pie pumpkin with your child with their name on the bottom. The children will be decorating theses and they will be sent home in time for Halloween.

Photo Day was a great success. We will send you the proofs as soon as we receive them. Please keep in mind that it may be a while.

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
