Students have completed their self-portraits for the month of March. There is a noticeable improvement in students fine-motor control, attention to detail and self-image. We have continued working on shapes, 2-D, and 3-D and classifying them in our environment by sorting fat and flat shapes. Students continue to explore their creativity and imagination through literature such as The Gruffalo’s Child (JKA) and Fairy Tales (JKB). Students continue to explore learning and playing in the house center, dramatic play and puppet theatre.
Cubbies have been cleared for a deep clean over the break. Upon return, please be sure to check to see if your child has an extra full set of clothing (that fits) in their cubby (that stays at school) as children still have accidents! Also, check to see if they have the proper clothing necessary for outdoor enjoyment and that everything is labeled.
In French, the students have started to learn a new song called Bonhomme, Bonhomme. It is a song about a fellow who plays various instruments. The word “bonhomme” means fellow in French. In the video of the song, it features Bonhomme carnaval (The Carnival Fellow, the official mascot of the Quebec City Carnival) and we discussed the Carnival of Quebec and how it is the largest Winter Carnival in North America. In Music, the JKs volunteered suggestions as we sang goodbye to winter and hello to spring! The students also played a solo singing game called Who has the shamrock? The JKs enthusiastically marched to the beat in the song March of the Leprechauns.
In PHE this week, the JKs finished their scooter board unit. Students enjoyed playing “Shark Attack” and other fun tag games.
This week in Art, the JKs continued working on their Eric Carle inspired birds. They cut shapes from painted papers and used those shapes to create the form of a bird.

March Break Home-School Connection
Families have been inquiring into activities they can do at home to support their child’s learning over the break. Here is a list of recommended activities for your child:
Reading - it is important that you read to your child nightly. As important it is for students to decode reading, it is also just as important that students comprehend what they’re reading. When students listen to stories they’re able to make predictions, retell texts and summarize a story.
Math IXL - login information has been sent through the flash
Raz Kids (Reading A-Z) can be downloaded for free through the app store - login information will be sent home in your child’s backpack so please look for it
OG Card Deck can be downloaded through the app store - The OG Card Deck app is free and students are familiar with the process, it can be enhanced with the following-up with printing the lower case letters
Play- your children need time for unstructured, free play → encourage them to use their creativity and imagination. Allow risk in their play and get them outside (fingers crossed for good weather!)
