Welcome back! We hope everyone had a relaxing break. The children were so excited to share their holiday news with us. We missed them dearly.
Just a few reminders. Please return all shoes (after to check to see if the shoes still fit!), a fresh set of spare clothes to be kept at school, and water bottles. The mornings may still be chilly, so please be sure that your child is dressed suitably for the cool mornings with hats, mitts and splash pants. We would also like to clarify that children are not permitted umbrellas during drop off or outdoor recess for safety reasons. They may keep them in their cubbies and use them to and from school.
A gentle reminder that all student absences should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
As well, if your child arrives late, please have them sign in with Ms. Kate or reception.
We will continue with our Geometry strand until the end of the year, however, will begin to focus on measurement over the next couple of weeks. This week we reviewed 2D and 3D shapes and we are happy to let you know that the children retained most of what they had learned prior to the March Break.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will begin to start our new Unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet. Our central idea is; Plants sustain life on Earth and play a role in our lives. During this unit, we will be inquiring into:
Caring for plants
Products we derive from plants
How plants contribute to life on Earth
This is an exciting unit that coincides perfectly with Spring and our measurement unit.
We have sent home Scholastic orders for this month. Please take a look, and if you are interested, please return to Ms. Maria and Ms. Yochabel by Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019.
In PHE this week, the JK students have been working on balancing interesting shapes with either a high balance or a low balance. They were challenged to balance on different body parts and to balance with 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 body parts touching the ground.
In French, the students were introduced to a new play called, Petit poussin. It is a play called Little Chick, a play about a little chick who leaves the comfort of home and family to explore the world and realizes the best place was home in the first place.
This week in Art, students began their new sculpture project. Each student will be creating a 3D doll or action figure. This week they created the shape of their person using tinfoil and next week they will cover their form in plaster.
In Music, the JKs started a song/story about the growth of a tulip bulb into a tulip flower. The students also have most of their Grandpals songs memorized and ready to perform.
