We have wrapped up our unit on How We Express Ourselves and have started to provoke students with our new unit: Sharing the planet. Students will begin to inquire into living and non-living things, plants and their contribution to the world. In math, we have continued to explore, classify and build shapes. We will soon start our unit on measurement with a transdisciplinary connection to our unit. A special thank-you to Capocaccia for the delicious pizza lunch on Monday!
In French, the students have become more familiar with the play, Petit poussin. The students have also started to sing the song, Le printemps (Springtime), in class. Please follow the link below to view the song here.
In PHE this week, the students worked on their hopping skills through a variety of centres. They hopscotched, hurdled, jumped through the agility ladder and star jumped off a bench. They also had Megan Nadin who is a dance instructor come in and they worked on moving and dancing like rocket ships, flowers, a pony and a statue.
In Music, the JKs continued the story about The Tulip Bulb. The students added movement and instruments into the story. They continue to practice their songs for Grandpals Day.
This week in JK, students continued working on their doll/action figure sculptures. They used plaster to cover their tinfoil form. Next week, they will paint their dolls and add details using fabric, yarn, beads, and many other materials. The art room is always looking for recycled materials that can be used for creation. This could include boxes, toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, and so on. If you have anything at home you would like to donate, please bring your recycled materials to the art room.
If you are looking for some Mathematics apps to add to your child’s at-home device, here are some recommendations: https://www.mathlearningcenter.org/resources/apps
It looks like we can finally retire our winter gear! Splash pants and rain boots are a great option for this time of year as snow pants are too bulky and hot for this weather. Even if it’s not raining, please send splash pants as the playground is often wet and muddy.
A gentle reminder that all student absences should be emailed to email@example.com.
As well, if your child arrives late, please have them sign in with Ms. Kate or reception.
International Day of Pink
On Wednesday, April 10th, The York School will recognize Day of Pink. Students can add pink accessories to their uniform (t-shirt, socks, headband, tie, necklace, etc.) Please do your best to find pink accessories, but if necessary, red will be accepted.
