Students have had a great time participating in International week activities. Students decorated where they come from, planted seeds and contributed to a collective whole-school art piece. Students have continued to explore living and non-living things and are classifying living things as things that grow. Exploring the concept of growth, students have been curious about measuring themselves, how tall they are and how often they grow. We are starting to explore the concept of measurement and students are exploring using standard and nonstandard units. We have started comparing objects and using math language: bigger, smaller, longer, shorter, wider.
During this unit, we will be getting our hands dirty and doing lots of planting in our classroom. Through this, we will be investigating plant growth and cycles. If you have any planting utensils that you are willing to part with, we can use them. We are in need of small pots and shovels/spades. Thank you in advance!
In Music, the JKs started new songs about nature Listen to the Water and Robin in the Rain. The students reviewed beat and rhythm by passing egg shakers in the song Pass Around the Easter Egg. The JKs love the silly activity Glue where they get to be creative and dance independently.
This week in Art, the JKs created abstract paintings using lots of colour filling their entire page. These paintings will be cut up and used as a surprise for Grandpals and Special Friends Day.
In French, the students have been learning a new song called, J’ai faim, j’ai soif (I am hungry, I am thirsty). It ties in beautifully with our play, where the main character gets thirsty and hungry. Please follow the link below to view a video of the song.
This week in PHE, the JK’s finished off the balance unit. Next week they will look into healthy food choices through active movement and games.
A gentle reminder that all student absences should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
