JK - May 24 / 2019

Thank you for coming out to see our JK’s perform in their first Learning Celebration. They were so awesome!
Please find a video of today’s celebration here.

This week the children continued measuring and were able to measure their plants that grew in great heights over the weekend. It is so wonderful to see their enthusiasm and passion for taking care of plants.

In French, the students have continued to practise the days of the week, the months as well as numbers from one to thirty. The students have been practising to say the date in French.

This week in Art, the JKs finished their carpet designs and added a fringe using yarn. The finished designs are full of line, shape, and colour!

In PHE this week, the JK’s learned the correct technique for a standing long jump. They worked on standing with feet slightly apart, taking off and landing using both feet, swinging arms and bending the knees to move them forward.

In Music, the JKs reviewed their songs for the JK celebration. They are looking forward to sharing these songs with their parents and caregivers. The students also reviewed a partner dance involving movement, beat and rhythm.

Before Care

A gentle reminder that Before Care does NOT start until 7:30 AM.  There is no supervision before that time.

Looking Ahead

With this warm weather, please make sure that your child has a sun hat and that you apply sunscreen to them before school. If you like, you may also send in sunscreen that they may reapply themselves if necessary.

Next week we will be going for a walk through the cemetery to observe plant growth and have a scavenger hunt.

Does bigger always mean heavier? This is our provocation question this week, something for the children to think about over the weekend! Next week we will continue our measurement inquiry with a focus on weight.

May 31st - Casual Day!

Track and Field Day

On Thursday, June 6th we have our Track and Field Day. The activities will be held at Oriole Park. JK-Grade 2 students will participate in the morning from 9:00-11:00 am and Grades 3-5 in the afternoon from 1:00-3:00. Students need to come to school in their PHE uniform, house shirt and black TYS shorts. They may accessorize with house colours. Students also need to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and hat.

Please make sure to check The York School’s full school calendar regularly for updates, locations and times.
